And working out your lower abs can do a lot more for your body than creating a flat stomach! Building a strong core is one of the most beneficial things you can do for your body. Our body connects our upper and lower limbs, making it extremely important to how our bodies move and function every day. The core helps us do both cardio exercises and daily activities with ease, reducing the risk of injury and making daily exercise more effective.

Yes, this five-minute exercise will tone your lower abdomen and help you achieve a flat stomach if that’s your goal. But more importantly, it will create a strong core – and ultimately a strong body.

Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Lift your feet up and bring your heels together with your toes and your knees as wide as your shoulders. Exhale as you press your legs straight up at about a 45-degree angle, bringing your inner thighs together. Inhale to return to center. Repeat 10 times.

Start from behind with your feet straight in front of you. Lift your legs straight up to the ceiling, then exhale as you slowly lower your legs to the mat to a 45-degree angle. Exhale as you raise your legs again. Repeat 10 times.

Come onto your hands and knees, with your shoulders over your wrists and your knees under your hips. Pull the navy towards your spine. Press your toes into the ground. Then, lift your knees up off the ground about an inch, engaging the core. The bottom is not the bottom. Repeat 10 times.

Start in a position with the shoulders on the wrists. Extrude your lower teeth as you lift your hips up and back into downward facing dog. Bring your heels to the floor and lift the top of the ceiling. Press down firmly with your hand. Then slowly forward into the wood. Repeat 10 times.

Lie on your back with your legs in front of you. Put your hands behind your head, bend at the elbows. Raise your knees up to a table position so that your shins are parallel to the floor. Lift your shoulders off the mat. Straighten your right leg as you bring your left knee to your right elbow. Return to center before switching sides, bringing right knee to left knee. Repeat 10 times on each side.
