The Université Nice Sophia Antipolis has built a vibrant global character in the heart of the Mediterranean Basin. A prestigious training and research facility, a diverse range of high-quality teaching programs, and a privileged study environment have drawn an ever-increasing number of academics and professionals to the French Riviera. By order dated October 23, 1965, the University of Nice was established. However, its historical roots may be traced back to the 17th century, when the Princes of Savoy established the famed Collegium Jurisconsultorum Niciensium in 1639. It was made up of a large number of jurisconsult (law advisors and lawyers), and its reputation endured until 1860 when Nice was absorbed into France. Its College of Medicine conducted courses that were recognized throughout Europe in the 17th century. The vocation of the University of Nice was established at the turn of the twentieth century, thanks to the combined efforts of several outstanding university members, including Dean Louis Trotabas and Maurice Mignon. They established the Centre Universitaire Méditerranéen (now a conference centre) on the Promenade des Anglais in 1933 with the aid of nearby communities and, in particular, the City of Nice. Its first Administrator was the famed French poet Paul Valéry.

The Valrose campus (Sciences), the Trotabas campus (Law), the Saint-Jean d’Angély campus (Economics and Management), and the Carlone campus ((Letters, Arts, and Humanities) are the four main campuses of the institution. However, the university has several secondary locations like Sophia Antipolis and Villefranche-sur-Mer, both near Nice.

National Art School Villa Arson

The Art National High School of Villa Arson is a government-run institution overseen by the Ministry of Culture. The pedagogical orientations, developed by a group of artists, historians, and theorists, propose a progressive path marked by two State diplomas: the National Diploma of Visual Arts (DNAP, currently recognized at the Bachelor level) in the third year and the Higher National Diploma of Plastic Expression (DNSEP, approved to the Master level) in the fifth year. It provides the opportunity to take a course near an art centre while also benefiting from the presence of artists in residence. Every year, students are invited to meet and collaborate with innovative performers. The school, which is part of the European Higher Education Area, also offers a variety of art research programs and has a specialist multimedia library. The workshops are organized into five clusters (each centred on a specific Arts choice) and are geared toward both conventional and modern technologies (painting, engraving, lithography, screen printing, publishing, ceramics, wood, metal, and photography). A digital production and teaching centre allows students to experiment with all types of image and sound modifications, as well as to conduct in-depth studies in the domains of videography, computer graphics, sound, and editing. The students have large workshops where they can organize their personal work as well as a “gallery of tests” where they can experiment with life-size production.
